Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about SoldScope and Amazon product research.

About SoldScope
What is SoldScope?

SoldScope is a free Amazon product research tool that helps sellers identify high-sales, low-competition product opportunities. It pulls real-time Amazon data, calculates an Opportunity Score for each product, and highlights "Sweet Spot" picks — products with strong monthly sales and low competition from established sellers.

Is SoldScope free to use?

Yes, completely free. SoldScope is supported by advertising. There are no paywalls, no trial periods, and no credit card required. All core features — search, Best Picks mode, product detail, and compare — are available to everyone at no cost.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is needed. Open the app and start searching immediately. Your settings (such as operating mode) are saved locally in your browser.

Where does the data come from?

SoldScope pulls live data from Amazon through a real-time data API. The sales estimates, competition levels, review counts, and pricing you see reflect current Amazon conditions — not a cached snapshot from weeks or months ago.

Understanding the Data
What is the Opportunity Score?

The Opportunity Score is a 0–100 rating that combines demand and competition signals into a single number. A high score means strong monthly sales relative to how entrenched the competition is — the combination new sellers are looking for. It's weighted primarily on estimated sales (40%) and competition level (40%), with smaller contributions from price viability and Amazon demand signals.

Treat it as a filtering tool, not a final decision. A score above 65 is worth investigating; a score below 30 usually means demand is thin or competition is too strong.

What does "Sweet Spot" mean?

A Sweet Spot badge appears on products that meet two criteria simultaneously: estimated monthly sales of 500 or more units AND a Low competition classification. This specific combination — proven demand plus low barrier to entry — is what experienced FBA sellers look for when evaluating new products.

How accurate are the monthly sales estimates?

Sales estimates are derived from Amazon's Best Seller Rank (BSR) using category-specific conversion curves. They are directional, not precise. A product showing "~800 units/month" likely sells somewhere between 500–1,200 units — the estimate gives you a range and a signal, not an exact count. Amazon does not publish actual sales data, so any estimate from any tool involves inference from public signals.

How is competition level determined?

Competition level (Low / Medium / High) is determined by looking at the review depth and seller fragmentation across the top listings for a product's keyword. Products in categories where top listings average fewer than ~300 reviews are classified as Low competition. Those with 300–1,000 average reviews are Medium, and above 1,000 are High. These thresholds reflect practical entry barriers for a new seller launching with a reasonable PPC budget.

Why does a product show "—" for monthly sales?

A dash means no reliable sales estimate is available for that product — usually because Amazon hasn't assigned a Best Seller Rank to it yet (common for brand-new listings) or because the BSR is too high to generate a meaningful estimate. These products are typically not worth prioritizing in your research.

Using the Tool
What is Best Picks mode?

Best Picks mode automatically scans 8 popular Amazon categories (Home, Kitchen, Fitness, Office, Pets, Beauty, Gaming, Baby) and surfaces only the products that meet the Sweet Spot criteria — low competition with strong sales. It's useful when you don't have a specific keyword in mind and want to browse opportunities across categories.

How do I compare multiple products?

Tap any product to open its detail page, then use the "Add to Compare" button. You can add up to 4 products and view them side by side on the Compare page (accessible from the navigation). The compare view shows opportunity scores, sales estimates, competition levels, pricing, and review data in a single table.

What do the filters do?

The filter panel (tap the sliders icon) lets you sort results by Opportunity Score, monthly sales, competition level, or price, and filter to only show Low, Medium, or High competition products. The quick competition chips at the top of the results list are a faster way to apply competition filters without opening the full panel.

Can I use SoldScope on my phone?

Yes — SoldScope is built mobile-first. The full feature set works on any smartphone browser with no app download required. The interface adapts to smaller screens, and all interactions are optimized for touch.

Amazon FBA Basics
What is Amazon FBA?

Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) is a program where sellers send their inventory to Amazon's warehouses. Amazon then handles storage, picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns on the seller's behalf. In exchange, sellers pay FBA fees (fulfillment + storage). The main benefit is access to Prime shipping eligibility, which significantly improves conversion rates.

How much money do I need to start selling on Amazon FBA?

Most successful new sellers start with $2,000–$5,000. This covers initial inventory (typically 200–500 units), product photography, Amazon's Professional Seller account ($39.99/month), initial PPC advertising budget, and freight. Starting with less is possible but limits your ability to maintain stock during the launch phase, which can hurt ranking momentum.

How long does it take to start making money with Amazon FBA?

From product selection to your first sale typically takes 3–6 months. Product research and supplier sourcing take 4–8 weeks; production and shipping take 8–16 weeks. After launch, most products need 60–90 days of sales history and review accumulation before organic ranking improves enough to reduce PPC dependency. Profitable months typically start in month 4–6 for well-researched products in low-competition niches.

What are FBA fees and how do I calculate them?

FBA fees include:

  • Referral fee: 8–15% of the selling price depending on category
  • Fulfillment fee: Based on product size and weight, typically $3–8 for standard-size items
  • Monthly storage fee: $0.56–$2.40 per cubic foot (higher Oct–Dec)

Use Amazon's official FBA fee calculator in Seller Central to get exact fees for your product dimensions and selling price before committing to a product.
